So you thought "Eureka" had a lot of high-tech devices in its first two years? Just wait until Season 3, according to SciFi Wire. "We take a lot of things that we find in tech magazines or online and sort of take it to the next level," said series co-creator Jaime Paglia. "We kind of 'Eureka-fy' stuff that's already in development. It is based on reality, and the idea of eventually exploring of the planets is great, but we get to take that to a whole new level." For example, in the highly rated SciFi Channel show with automatic dog walkers and hovercars, Biosphere 2, an environmental project in the Arizona desert, becomes "a 2,000-acre preserve," he said. What would happen to everyday events in a technologically advanced community like Eureka? Executive Producer Charlie Craig answers ...
The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for "Cabin Fever," the eleventh episode from the fourth season of ABC's "Lost." Another flashback episode. Come on, haven't we seen enough of these the first three seasons? Seriously, I don't care that John Locke's mother was unwed and got hit by a car in the rain while pregnant with him. I don't particularly care that Locke was stuffed into lockers in high school. I'm more concerned with the here and the now, island time that is. The problem with this episode was that Locke is much more effective as an enigma. Knowing he was crippled was essential. I could sense importance in the backstory with his father. But really, this episode was a case of too much information. Yes, he had a bad family life. We already knew that. We've always known John ...
The departures don't seem to be yet over for "Smallville" as it gets ready for its eighth season. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Allison Mack is still trying to work out a deal with The CW show, but that it's not looking good. "This marks quite a turnaround from a few months ago when I deemed Mack a lock to come back next season," Ausiello said. "And I wasn't the only one. Although a deal wasn't signed at the time, 'Smallville' insiders tell me that all indications were that the actress was on board for Season 8." However, when Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor, made his non-return for the next season official, Mack apparently was able to come back and ask for a bit more since the show would be more dependent on her than ever. She got help from Kristin Kreuk's ...
I guess we're all guilty of this from one time or another, so don't take anything I'm about to say as if I'm standing in a pulpit above all of it. But if this is a busy Friday for you, and you don't have time to read this entire column, I can sum it all up in a single sentence: Stop judging a project before you even see it. I'm saying this because I'm reading around the Internet and watching as diehard fans of "Battlestar Galactica" have already made a decision on what they think about the upcoming prequel spinoff "Caprica." Yes, there are some details out about the backdoor pilot, and prequels automatically give some people a bad feeling in their stomach, but I just don't understand why we all can't wait to find out if we like a show until we actually watch it. This was the same ...
If fans were feeling a little bogged down by some of the dark and brooding storytelling that "Eureka" had last season, then it sounds like the upcoming third season may sit a little better. According to producers Charlie Craig and Jaime Paglia, the upcoming season will include lighter stories and a greater feeling of fun. And as part of their plan for lightening the load they will also be including a few salutes to some popular movies. "One that we've been wanting to do for a long time, 'Groundhog Day,' I think, is the perfect episode thematically for our characters, especially for this guy," Paglia said about Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). "It involves 2 a.m. and ice water. That's all I'm going to say. Over and over again." Throughout the course of the third season, the series ...
