    The December activities of the USS Wernher von Braun have changed somewhat since I made my last posting. Here's the updated listing. Our friends in Region 2 are welcome to join us if you're able. Happy holidays 🎄, and live long and prosper! 🖖

    December 16, Saturday: WvB Galaxy of Lights Tour Please note the new day and time to drive through the galaxy (of Christmas lights).

    December 30, Saturday: WvB 25th Anniversary Discovery Celebration Celebrating the 25th anniversary of our launching as a shuttle of STARFLEET, and a Star Trek: Discovery video marathon.

    December 31, Sunday: WvB at the Symphony Concert featuring hit science-fiction TV show and movie music. Still looking for a TOS era Spock cosplayer.

    And throughout December, our 25th Anniversary Christmas Tree will be on display at the Downtown Huntsville Library (915 Monroe Street near the VBC). It's located on the second floor by the stairs. It showcases over 30 of the Hallmark Star Trek and Journey Into Space series ornaments, as well as ornaments hand made by the crew. This year, the tree also includes pictures of our activities over the past 25 years.

    TREKLANTA ANNOUNCES 2018 HOTEL AND DATE CHANGE
    December 9, 2017 (Atlanta)

    Afters months of an often challenging search and scouting more than two dozen hotels in the greater Atlanta metro area, Treklanta is pleased to announce that we will be returning to the iconic Marriott Century Center Hotel in northeast Atlanta for our 2018 convention. With its 15-story-tall open atrium and plenty of ballroom and meeting room space, the Century Center has been a popular site for many fan conventions for more than thirty years. The Century Center hosted Treklanta in 2015 and we are delighted to be returning in 2018. Not unimportantly, the Century Center was also the site of the USS Republic's original commissioning as a chapter of STARFLEET in May 1988... and we'll be celebrating our 30th anniversary at this year's convention in the very same hotel.

    Along with a return to the Century Center comes an unavoidable date change. One of the reasons it has taken so long for us to find a hotel for our 2018 convention is that all of our previous hotels and many others that we've recently contacted are already booked with other events on our previously announced dates in April. Some hotels had a few meeting rooms available, but not enough to accommodate all our needs, and a few other hotels had all the space we needed, but at a price we simply could not afford. Late last month, it became obvious to us that the only way we would be able to secure a hotel with all the meeting space we need at a price we can afford was to move our dates, no matter how reluctant we were to do so. Newly armed with a flexible calendar, it didn't take us long to find a nearly perfect host hotel in the Century Center on the only remaining weekend they had available... Memorial Day Weekend. So with that in mind, please mark your calendars and plan to attend Treklanta on May 25-27, 2018.

    We are aware that this is the same weekend at BaltiCon in Baltimore, MegaCon in Orlando and MomoCon here in Atlanta. While we would prefer to hold Treklanta on a weekend when there are no other major Star Trek/sci-fi cons being held in the eastern United States or any major fan-run con of any genre in Atlanta, some things are simply unavoidable and this is one of those things. That said, we are pleased to have, through no fault of our own, landed on Memorial Day Weekend, which for many people is a four-day weekend and should allow many of our out-of-town attendees to enjoy the full day's worth of programming we always present on Sunday, even when most other fan conventions start shutting down around lunchtime. So now, when you buy a full weekend membership, you'll be able to actually stay and enjoy the full weekend!

    Our web site will be updated with this information over the next few days. In about a week or so, you'll be able to purchase your Treklanta membership, make your hotel room reservation and learn about some of the guests we've already booked and events and activities we're already planning to present. We look forward to seeing you at Treklanta in 2018!

    =============================
