About R2 Summit

A Region 2 Summit can be one of the most rewarding experiences in STARFLEET. Unlike typical conventions with Star Trek stars, a summit is a learning experience. But don’t let that deter you, as you will have fun while learning. Plus, there are almost always other opportunities for pure fun activities. Not only is it a great chance to learn valuable skills in the various informative panels and workshops, but it’s also a great chance to make valuable friendships with people you’ve only heard about through the Communique, Region 2 Update, online, and other sources.

Most of the Summit is focused on learning valuable skills pertaining to STARFLEET chapters, such as how to make a newsletter or promote your chapter. Crewmembers from the same ship will often split up in order to cover as many panels as they possibly can. That way, they can then go back to their ship and share the information they’ve gathered with their shipmates. The Summit is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their skills as a Department Chief or even as a general officer. However, the skills learned here are general skills that can be used anywhere! So think of the Summit as a general leadership and skills-building conference.

The Summit also has a very fun side. Besides the general camaraderie that exists when you put a huge group of Star Trek fans together, there are many fun events planned. You can try your skill at being the Great Dalmuti, which is a very fun card came.

The Annual Awards Banquet held Saturday night recognizes all the hard working individuals and chapters who have done a lot for their ship, community, region, and STARFLEET. Over a dozen awards are given out to recognize everything from Shuttle of the Year to Ship of the Year, from Cadet to Officer, from Recruiter to Commanding Officer, and many, many more. Perhaps you or your crewmember, newsletter, or chapter will win an award.

Would you like to make out like a bandit while helping a very good cause? You’ll get your chance at the annual Region 2 Auction. Past charities have included the American Cancer Society, the Ryan White Foundation, the STARFLEET Scholarship Fund, and the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Not only can you help by bidding high and bidding often (Isn’t that a Feringi Rule of Acquisition?), you can donate an item to be auctioned. After all, how many action figures and toys do you need? So help yourself, and help others, by clearing out your closets of those unwanted collectibles.

Like everything else in STARFLEET, the Summit is ran by volunteers. You can help in many different ways. You can start simply by offering suggestions about what panels you’d like to see scheduled or by convincing your fellow crewmembers to attend. If you want to take a more active roll, volunteer your services and time by hosting a panel or donate items to the auction. We’ll even take any resource donations from paper to financial contributions. You’re also more than welcome to simply enjoy all the activities and panels as a general attendee without having to do anything at all.

As you can see, a lot goes on at a Region 2 Summit. Over 100 people from chapters throughout the region attend the Summit, along with some of the STARFLEET Executive Committee, like the Commander, STARFLEET. It’s a great opportunity to learn in a very fun environment. You will also have a chance to find out what is going on in your region and in STARFLEET.
