Starfleet Quartermaster – new polos in stock, and some closeouts!

Just in time for the International Conference, the QM received the okay from the bosses with their hands on the purse strings so we could buy a new color of Starfleet logo embroidered polos. This year’s color is a brilliant red, and as always, they are made from super-comfortable 100% Pima Cotton, and comes with the manufacturer’s unlimited 10 year guarantee! Nearly half of the order was sold at the IC, so if you want one of these, head on over to the QM site, click on the Clothing link, and get one (or more!) before they’re gone.

Speaking of things that are about to be gone, the 4 gigabyte USB 2.0 Starfleet flash drives are nearly sold out. These won’t be replaced, so grab one while you can. The price has been reduced to $12. And speaking of price cuts, the 3-D posters featuring the various incarnations of the Enterprise are only $8, just over half of what we originally charged for these beauties. You can see the animated gifs of how they look in 3-D on the QM site on the Novelties page.

As always, feel free to pass this along to any other interested groups or individuals, and if you know of a Starfleet related mailist that would like to start getting QM mails like this, send me an invite.

Happy shopping, and thanks for supporting Starfleet!

IC2012

What a weekend we had in Memphis! I had some transportation problems; but, all in all…a fantastic weekend. I am already looking for ways of getting back there. As a region we did well in the awards….as usual. Region 2 was honored with Shakedown Chapter of the Year AGAIN for the USS Haven! and Kimberly Macafee of the USS Robins announced Starfleet Scholarship winner! Sandy Dolan was able to enjoy (?) her first IC as VRC. In recognition of this I presented her with her own pair of Elvis shades complete with sideburns! During the meeting we heard from all of the departments and voted Lifetime memberships to Linda Kloempkin and Bjo Trimble. Some cosmetic changes to the Handbook were voted on and a discussion of a Shuttle Program for small groups was discussed. Communications announced a “live” version of the CQ. Mark Anderson will have a link on the R2 page soon. We got out of the meeting with time to spare on the clock. Alex Agrelo of the USS Haven got as close as Mexico in his attempt to attend IC. He was held up by Mexican Red Tape but is undaunted. As we continue to work on getting me to travel to Havana, Alex is talking about attending the next R2 Summit in Muscle Sholes. We were treated by a surprise visit by Wade and Linda Olsen. She and I discussed next years’ sumit and the upcoming Bidding Season for the 2014 summit. More news on those coming soon. The USS Haise had a large group of attendees; I even think they had the most of any chapter in Fleet at IC. The Final Mission Ceremony was touching as always. Dave Blaser announced that he and DJ are working on a Fleet-wide manual for the ceremony due to the overwhelming interest from chapters wishing to have similar events. I am always happy to hear when other regions want to be as good as we are!!!!! You can find photos in the Fleet Flicker page http://www.flickr.com/groups/starfleet/pool/ and I am sure some will be uploaded to the R2 webpage as well. Next year is in Dallas, TX and 2014 was announced for Chicago. Hope to see you there!

The USS Hephaestus Summer cookout is coming soon!

Summer is here, and that means it’s cookout time. On Saturday, July 14 at 2:00, the annual summer cookout will commence. We’ll have loads of food, soft drinks,
snacks, games, movies and other fun all day until late in the evening.

We’ll start the day with a game of Munchkin, and then fire up the grill around 4:00. All you need to bring is your main course for the grill (or oven, stove or
microwave if you prefer). We’ll provide sides, toppings, drinks and snacks. After the eating is done, the highly anticipated Texas Hold’em championship begins.
The evening will be rounded out with the Great Dalmuti tournament.

For those who aren’t into tabletop gaming, we’ll have videos and movies, and video trivia, not to forget all sorts of Wii games. Feel free to
bring your kids, as we have a trampoline, swingset, and two-story playhouse with the longest slide you’ve ever seen. If you get hot, you
can take a dip in our 15 foot pool!

Mark your calendars to join us at the Mohneys’ house in Birmingham for a day full of fun!

In other news, we will soon be selling Commodore rank pins that we had made just for Starfleet, using the Hollywood Pins design as a template. These pins have gotten very hard to find, and the prices have gradually risen, but now we’ll have a supply that will last us a long time. Eventually I hope to have rank pins made for Vice Admiral, Rear Admiral, and Admiral – these pins, and the gold and black rank pips, have been great sellers over the years, and I want to make sure we can continue to meet this demand.

As usual, please feel free to forward this email to any lists or individuals you think might be interested.

Starfleet Challenge Coin auction to benefit the SFA Scholarship fund

Last year, when we ordered the first-ever Starfleet Challenge Coins, we purchased ten in a silver finish and ninety in a gold finish. At the time, we stated that while we would reorder the gold coins if demand was high enough, the ten silver colored coins were the only ones that would be made that way. That’s still the plan, so the silver colored coins that were bought should be the only ones ever made.

There’s only one left in the QM store, and with the EC’s approval, we’re going to auction off the last one for the benefit of the Starfleet Academy Scholarship fund. As you may know, each year several $500 scholarships are awarded to deserving Starfleet members for help with educational expenses. This is a great cause, and one that the Starfleet Quartermaster is glad to be able to help support!

Starting now, and running until June 23 at 11:50 p.m. Central time, we’ll be holding a ‘silent auction’ for this last silver colored coin. The highest bid received by then will be the winner, and the coin will be mailed at our expense immediately after.

In order to bid, send an email with your name and your bid to me at qm@sfi.org. (I’ll accept bids that go to any of my emails, actually, but it would be best if you sent them to the ‘official’ one.) I’ll respond to each email, letting you know if you are the high bid or not. I’ll also post on the QM site front page what the high bid is each day or so.

So get your bid in – this is a great opportunity to own a rare piece of Starfleet memorabilia, and help a great cause while you’re at it!

(Please feel free to pass this along to any other individuals, groups or lists you think might be interested.)

Starfleet Quartermaster Contest and Coupon.

September 28 of this year is the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Starfleet will commemorate this with a special, limited-edition embroidered patch. What will it look like? Well, that’s where you come in!

Starfleet is having a design contest for this item; the winning designer will receive a prize to be determined later (probably consisting of some sort of Quartermaster package) for their efforts, and will be credited with the item on the Starfleet Quartermaster website, where the patch will be sold.

Things we need on the patch: a clear mention of Starfleet, and of ST:TNG’s 25 anniversary. Things we cannot put on the patch: content that could violate copyrights or trademarks owned by Paramount or CBS. This will require some real creativity on your part!

Designs should be, at a minimum, a very high resolution JPG; vector graphics are preferred. Send your submissions to qm@sfi.org. We’ll host the designs on the QM website, so the membership can view them all and make comment and recommendations.

In other news, our embroidery storefront host is offering a $10 coupon good through the end of this week – here’s their press release:

Shop at our online store before this Friday and take $10.00 off any
order of $50 or more. Stock up for summer and enjoy these $10.00 savings
while this coupon lasts!

Article on Infinity Science Center opening.

USS Haise members Scott Crawford, Janet Bullock, Barbara Allen and Haise CO Lucy Ferron will be representatives tomorrow at the VIP Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. We are treating Fred Haise to dinner tonight in Gulfport. The USS Haise, Region 2, and STARFLEET have all made donations or raised funds toward this endeavor in the past four years. It will be exciting to see this fabulous new facility! It would not have happened without the leadership and dedication of Fred Haise!
Be assured that Scott will take LOTS of pictures! Look for them Wed. night or Thursday on the USS Haise Facebook page.
“Four to beam down, Scottie!”

$30 million INFINITY Science Center to open Thursday in Bay St. Louis

Harlan Kirgan – Mississippi Press

The $30 million, 72,000-square-foot INFINITY Science Center is scheduled to open to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday.

“This state-of-the-art facility will ignite the imaginations of children and adults alike and will educate residents and visitors about Mississippi’s important contributions to space exploration,” Gov. Phil Bryant said in a news release.

“All who helped bring this spectacular addition to our Mississippi Gulf Coast are to be commended.”

A ribbon-cutting is planned Wednesday, but that event is closed to the public at the facility located west of the Mississippi Welcome Center, off the interchange of Interstate 10 and Mississippi Exit 2, South Mississippi 607.

Rebecca Strecker, a NASA Stennis Space Center spokesperson, said the center showcases the activities of NASA and the 30 residencies along with information on science and discovery.

“When you go there you’ll see everything from information on rocket engine testing, the beginning of human space flight all the way through today,” she said.

The center replaces a visitors center which first opened in 1984 in conjunction with the World’s Fair in New Orleans and closed in February.

INFINITY features outdoor exhibits which include an F-1 rocket engine, a tsunami buoy, and a U.S. Navy riverine training boat. F-1 engines powered the Saturn rockets used in the Apollo program.

At the entrance visitors are welcomed by a video featuring Mississippi Gulf Coast native and Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise.

Exhibits include the Science Express, Science on a Sphere and the Space Gallery.

Science Express provides information about exploration from the early days of seafaring nations to modern-day space travel at the Great Nations Dare to Explore exhibit.

Science on a Sphere includes the tracks of hurricanes and the surface of the sun or Mars.

The Space Gallery has information from how space travel has evolved over the past 50 years to NASA’s new spacecraft currently in development, the Orion Crew Capsule. Visitors can experience a rocket engine test and see what life is like in an International Space Station module.

The ticket price also includes a bus tour of Stennis Space Center, which Strecker said is the world’s large rocket engine testing facility. Haise, in a news release on www.visitinfinity.com, said, “Most everyone has heard of Kennedy Space Center or Johnson Space Center because those are where we have launched and commanded space missions.”

“But Stennis Space Center is where this nation perfected the engines that got us into space,” he said. “I bet most of America does not know that the largest rocket test facility in the United States is right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and has been since the 1960s. We have the world’s largest oceanographic science and research contingency right here, too.”

Strecker said about 35,000 people a year visited the former Stennissphere visitors center and she thinks with the new center’s visibility to Interstate 10 the visitor count may grow.

“There’s a lot to see,” she said of INFINITY and the bus tour of Stennis Space Center.

The Hancock Chamber of Commerce is managing the nonprofit center.

Starfleet Quartermaster Polo Shirt Sale!

We’d like to get a new color of polo shirts for this summer, but before we do that, we need to clear out some of the current stock. So, with the approval of the powers that be, we’re lowering prices on all polos from $24 to $19!

These shirts come in sizes from small to 3XL, in colors including black, grey, hunter green, and navy blue. You can see them all in the Clothing category on the Quartermaster site.

You can also vote for a new color by emailing me at qm@sfi.org with your choice, and help us with the decision of what the color for 2012 will be!

Please note that all of the polos come with a ten year manufacturer’s unlimited warranty, which you can see here – http://www.queensboro.com/returns? – so you can be assured that these are some great shirts, as the company couldn’t stay in business otherwise. I have four different polos from this company, and I can attest that they’re both durable and comfortable.

Also do not forget about the Penny Jar contest. Bring lots of silver and pennies to vote for (pennies) your favorite Trek show or against (silver) the others! The last time we did this at a Region 2 Summit we raised over $45.00. With 2 Regions represented we should do better than that!

USS Hephaestus Spring Cookout is coming, April 14, 2:00 p.m.

The first big USS Hephaestus event of the year is coming! On Saturday, April 14 at 2:00, the annual spring cookout will commence. We’ll have loads of food, soft drinks, snacks, games, movies and other fun all day until late in the evening.

We’ll start the day with a game of Munchkin, and then fire up the grill around 4:00. All you need to bring is your main course for the grill (or oven, stove or microwave if you prefer). We’ll provide sides, toppings, drinks and snacks. After the eating is done, the highly anticipated Texas Hold’em championship begins. The evening will be rounded out with the Great Dalmuti tournament.

Of course, for those who aren’t into tabletop gaming, we’ll have videos and movies, and maybe some video trivia, not to forget all sorts of Wii games. Feel free to bring your kids, as we have a trampoline, swingset, and two-story playhouse with the longest slide you’ve ever seen, out in the yard.

Moogie’s Store and Auction Emporium

Greetings Region 2 and Region 3:

As some of you know, I am the proprietor of Moogie’s Store and Auction Emporium. Because of a fire at Uncle Bob’s Storage, which destroyed all of my extra collectibles, there will be some interesting items in this year’s store, items you would not normally see. Moogie’s will be sorely lacking in Star Trek goodies, but there will be a few items, never fear. Here is what I managed to scrape up:

Webkinz! Yes those little adorable stuffed animals that are very popular with the kids (and grups too). Since turning 13 my daughter decided she did not want her collection so all 150+ will be found at Moogie’s. These are without tags but still will be quite a bargain.

Happy Meal Toys! Yes, a hundred or so of your favorite fast food toys from McDonald’s, Burger King, etc. will be available at Moogie’s.
DVDs: Over 300 DVDs and a few Blu-rays will be on the table. Genres include Horror, Sci-Fi, Action/Adventure/Drama, Disney/Family; War; Best Picture Winners; and Television Shows!

Autographs! Autographs from the world of Star Trek, Smallville, Twilight, Serenity, and autographs from other miscellaneous shows and films will be available.
Who knows what else I will be able to find between now and Summit!

Finally, bring your extra change (loose or rolled) because Moogie’s will have the Penny Jars on the premises to allow you to vote for your favorite Star Trek show! Here is how it works: there will be five jars each one representing one of the Star Trek series. To vote for your favorite show drop pennies into the jar. Each penny represents one vote for that show. To vote against a show, drop silver into the jar. Silver subtracts from the penny total. So, if there is 100 pennies in a jar and someone drops in $1.00 in silver, although there is $2.00 in the jar, the number of votes for that show is zero. The silver cancels out the pennies. If you wish to throw in paper money fine but it does not count in the voting. The jar with the most amount of pennies at the end of the contest will be the winner! In one Region 2 Summit, over $50 was raised for the Summit charity.

Thanks and see y’all soon!

Passing of Member

Greetings everyone:

It is with the deepest sorrow that I report the passing of one of our
crewmembers and a STARFLEET Marine, MCPT Frazier Smith.

Frazier had been an active member of STARFLEET & the USS DaVinci until
he had initially suffered a stroke a little more than a year ago and
seemed to have been recovering nicely prior to his death. Frazier
passed during the night in his sleep.

Frazier was not only a member of the USS DaVinci & a STARFLEET Marine,
but also a close personal friend of mine & I will miss him much.

For members of the DaVinci crew, funeral arrangements are currently
pending, but will probably be held in Valley, AL, where Frazier was
raised. Date and time will be announced as it becomes available.

Be blessed always!

Summit Security – Looking for Volunteers

Hey, gang. Just a friendly reminder that we are looking for volunteers to help with Security at Summit. “Security?” you might ask. Let me break it down:

– Running errands and helping to find people/panels
– Helping set-up and tear-down projects
– Making sure no one messes with registration and/or vendor room(s)
– Helping out where needed

Gregory Jasmin (Region 2 Security – Summit Security Co-Chair) and I will be supplying drinks and snacks for those helping with Security.

You do not have to be stuck in boring spots, or stuck long hours if you help with Security. All that we ask is that you help where you can…when you can. 🙂

You can easily continue having fun while working Security…and it also gives you a chance to meet new people and see old friends.

We definitely need volunteers. If you are interested, please let me know. You can email me at robynhuntermgs03@gmail.com or contact Gregory at region2security@hotmail.com.

Thanks…and looking forward to seeing everyone in Hammond! 🙂

We’re running low on a few items that won’t be replaced – the 2006 challenge coin (only one left!), the money bags, and the USB hubs/mini mousepads (four USB 2.0 slots, and it has cool LED lights that light up), all about sold out.

was lost in a fire at Uncle Bob’s Storage back in September. I still
have some goodies I can bring but I need help from the rest of you.

If you have anything you would care to donate to Moogie’s Store, please
send me a description of the item(s). Please do not bring me a whole
bunch of stuff without first letting me know what it is as I need to
make an Excel file of everything before Summit. Anything would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

One hundred coins were ordered, ninety with a gold finish and ten with a silver finish. The silver coins will not be reordered, so this is your only chance to own one of these very rare items. The gold coins will be reordered if sales warrant. You can see photos of the coins on the QM website under the Novelties/Misc category.

The saying goes something like ‘Out with the old, in with the new’, and as we’re bringing in new items, we have some old merchandise that’s almost sold out – so we’re going to lower prices on them to clear them out to make way for planned new items. We’ve knocked a bit off the prices on the keychains, Captain Kirk t-shirts, USMC shot glasses and lighters, money pouches and USB hub/mousepads. Only a handful are left of each of these items, and when they’re gone, they’re gone forever, so get them while you can!

Sales in the Starfleet Spreadshirt shop continue to grow, and we have dozens of designs and hundreds of items available there – but we’re always looking for more designs to add! If you would like to have your design in the shop, send it to the QM at the email address below. The best format is a ‘transparent background’ PNG or JPG – those will be put up right away – formats without a transparent background will be held until they can be altered to be useable, or put on the site only on plain white t-shirts. Transparent background images allow us to put designs on any color item. See the store at

starfleetheadquarters.spreadshirt.com

Starfleet items make great gifts for your Starfleet friends, get your shopping done early!

As always, please feel free to forward this to any related groups or individuals.

USS Hephaestus Fall Feast – Saturday November 19, 2:00 p.m.

The officers and crew of the USS Hephaestus are pleased to invite you to the 2011 USS Hephaestus Fall Feast! For many years, we have held a combined Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas party, which combined all of the best characteristics of those holidays, and more.

We’ll start the festivities at two in the afternoon at the home of Pete and Sue Ellen Mohney in Birmingham. The house will be full of the smell of Pete’s famous turkey, plus the many sides and snacks that will be provided by the members of the chapter. (You are welcome and encouraged, but not required, to bring your own favorite side dish, snack, dessert or soft drink.) The day will begin with movies in the main room, Wii games in the side room, and tabletop games in the basement – probably a round of Fluxx or Munchkin. The food will be served about four, and will be followed with the Great Dalmuti championship – and there will be a prize for the winner, a gift card to a bookstore or something along those lines. Next, we’ll play the eagerly anticipated Ferengi Christmas game – if you want to play, bring a wrapped, inexpensive gift (about ten bucks value is fine). Finally we’ll start up the main event of the evening – the annual Fall Feast Poker Championship! Half of the entry fees will go to the winners (number of winners will depend on the number of players), with the rest going to the chapter to help pay the bills.

Friends and family of all ages are welcome; in addition to the TVs, Wii, internet games and the like, we have plenty of outdoor entertainment for kids of all ages – a swingset, trampoline, and two-story playhouse in the woods. We’ll have movies all day, and enough food to stuff yourself silly. For directions or more information, email me at the address below. We look forward to seeing you in November!

WvB Anniversary Party on Sunday, October 23, 2011

The USS Wernher von Braun is having our Anniversary Party on Sunday,
October 23, from 1pm till 10pm at my home in Ardmore, AL (which is
right on the TN border along I-65). It’s a potluck lunch, so please
RSVP with the food item that you plan to bring so we don’t end up
with duplicates. This is open to everyone, so please feel free to
bring guests or forward this on to your crew and other STARFLEET chapters.

We’ll watch videos, play Star Trek Uno or other games, relax, and
have fun. If the weather is nice, and there’s interest, we’ll go
outside to launch model rockets for our Aerospace Day. Since it’s so
close to Halloween, costumes are encouraged but not required, even if
it’s just a Starfleet uniform. We may even vote for the best costume.

If you have any questions or need more information, please RSVP to my
personal e-mail or to info@usswvb.org for directions. Hope to see you there!

Region Auctioneer.

It is with regret that I announce that, after 5 years in the position, Freddy Heller will be stepping down as Region 2 Auctioneer.

Recently, Freddy suffered a devesting personal loss when the storage facility in which he had a vast collection of Star Trek, Star Wars, classic record albums and vintage newspapers was heavily damaged by fire. Much of his property, as well as the R2 Auctioneer inventory, was lost in the fire. Along with other personal considerations, Freddy felt that it was time for him to step down and hand the job over to someone else.

Freddy has always been, and will continue to be a “go-to” guy for the Region. I applaude his service to the Region and am happy to have grown to call him friend over the years. I am sure there will be many other ways wich Freddy will continue to be of service to the Region.

Freddy has agreed to stay on in the position until a replacement has been chosen. Look for the job posting soon.

2012 Joint Summit.

2012 The Mayans predict the world will end…let’s have one last, great party!

Region 2 and Region 3 are joining forces for a Combined Regional Summit and we are looking for your help. Come and be part of an event that is sure to be the talk of Starfleet!

We will be needing help all the way from planning to execution. Let us know what you’d like to do.

Our first job is going to be selecting the Summit site. If you’d like to lend a hand with that and to be on the Site Selection Committee, let us know. Some travel may be necessary along the Gulf Coast to
visit hotels, but it’s not required of all the committee members. Are you good at decorations? Like to plan schedules and panels? Can you make cool looking graphics? Whatever you can do…if you’d like to help…we want to hear from you. Please send a private email to either of us at the email addresses below. Include all the regular info; who you are, how you would like to help, any experience you’ve had…you can even include a “resume” if you’d like. We are looking forward to putting together a great team to make this a weekend to remember.

IC Update Saturday 2010.

Saturday is the BIG day for activity at IC. Opening ceremonies and General session started off only a few minutes late. We were all impressed with a member from Region 3 singing the UK, Canadian and US national anthems. All of us Regional Coordinators got up for the Fleet Roll Call and then came the reports from each of the EC members and the address by Sal.

One humorous moment happened when a representative from the IC charity, a wild animal education program, got up to speak with a large Albino python draped around her neck. Linda Kloempkin, Starfleet Recognitions Officer, took a turn holding the snake and when she was called up to the stage to hand out awards the snake had other ideas and would not let go. The jokes started flying and there are rumors of the two of them dating!

As RC, I was proud to accept a Marine Naval Citation Unit Award for the USS Dark Phoenix, the Most Informative Website Award for the USSTiberius and the Starfleet Commanding Officer of the Year award for Lucy Ferron.

As typical with these meetings; we ran over schedule. There was a hot dog and hamburger cookout waiting for us outside. Of course, outside was 102 degrees and the cookout was at the bottom of a hill. You had to feel sorry for those still in uniform basting away in the Oklahoma heat. The schedule for the rest of the day seemed to suffer from the late start of everything after the Opening Ceremonies. I stopped in for the beginning of the Meet the Candidates panel in which Emmet Plant (at home recovering from surgery) conferenced in over the phone.

Just before the banquet was the Final Mission which was a success as always. A short cocktail mixer came just before the banquet. The food was the usual for one of these events. Afterwards was the Charity Auction at which they had a Pie Toss (gee…I wonder where they got that idea?!) with Sal and Jeff Higdon, the Region 12 RC.Partying into the wee hours of the morning followed that. I stayed up with the Marines as their party moved from the Commandant’s room to the lobby to the banquet hall. I left around 2AM but heard that things finally died down around 5!

A very full and fun day!

Towaway out…..

Report 2 From the IC 2010.

Friday is the work day at IC. It was up early and to the hotel breakfast buffet to try to kick start the day. My chapter has just started a Marine Strike Group, so I spent the time getting some input and advice from the Marine Commandant, John Roberts.

The joint Executive Committee and Admiralty Board meeting started almost on time and we breezed through the first half of the day going through all of the EC Department reports.

After a lunch break, we finished the usual reports from the EC and Regional Coordinators we dove into the real work of the afternoon. First, we worked on the selection of the Honorary and Lifetime memberships. You would think this would be simple and easy, but there were some minor rules issues which had to be discussed before the final vote could be taken.

The same thing happened over a discussion over Minimum Rank Requirements and the Lifetime Memberships. There have been some issues recently where an officer gets an automatic promotion, say for command of a chapter, but he/she does not want to take that rank. Some wording in the handbook was voted on to be changed to allow such a situation.

A discussion over the use of Honorary Memberships for publicity purposes was tabled for discussion on the ECAB List and a presentation by the R3 RC Reed Bates was also relegated to the internet.

The final discussion, which took up a lot of time near the end of the da was over losing our CPA for the upcoming CS Election. There is still some time to rectify the issue before major constitutional issues are raised and hopefully a resolution can be found. The AB did have to make one change to the MHB which gives the Election Coordinator more latitude in who can count our ballots.

Friday night was dinner in the hotel restaurant and a swim in the pool. The IC 2011 team hosted a hospitality suite and has been the perfect place to stop and relax for a while and catch up with friends.

Towaway out…….

Report 1 From the IC 2010.

You’ve all seen the Travel Gnome? Well, apparently, I have a Travel Gremlin who follows me around when I go on vacation and that little SOB has struck again.

The beginning of the week saw me wondering if I were going to be making the trip to the Starfleet International Conference or not as I woke up Monday morning with severe back pain. I finally got to my regular physician on Tuesday who promptly wrote prescriptions for Percocet, Flexeril and Prednisone.

I like my doctor!

So, with medications in hand and luggage all packed I headed off this morning, walking upright once again, just after 4AM for my flight out of West Palm Beach This first flight to Atlanta was uneventful. That, of course was when that good ole’ Towaway Luck” reared its ugly head and messed with the rest of the day.

As soon as I arrived at the gate it was announced that we had been reassigned to a smaller aircraft. I get onto that plane and they announce that there is a sensor on a door which still shows the door as open; this is a safety and security issue which has us being led off of the plane while another one is being flown in from Memphis. The airline started handing out meal vouchers as compensation for the hour delay in getting the “new” plane for us. When it shows up it is announced there is a problem with the tires. Apparently, not that bad a problem as we are let on the plane almost immediately.

We finally take off for Tulsa after a total of 2 hours of a delay. Sal Lizard, the Commander Starfleet, and his family are on the same flight; so I’ve been able to go through this with friends. Arrival at the Western Hills Guest Ranch in Wagoner, OK is quickly followed by a jump in the pool. The surroundings are gorgeous; a small rustic hotel resort decorated to look like an old ranch house with beautiful rolling hills and view of the lake. The best part is; it’s 90 degrees and low humidity!

I have met up with many old friends; including DJ Allen and Peggy Moshell from the Continuum. We have dinner together and then spend some time catching up with John Roberts and other Starfleet Marines.

As you can see, arriving the day before the festivities begin is a great way to get in, get settled and meet up with friends. Most everyone has called it an early night to get enough sleep to make it through the EC/AB Meeting for tomorrow.

Towaway out…….
